DNA from Meili\u2019s rape kit was\u00a0matched to Reyes. The five prisoners who were originally\u00a0convicted for this crime, all now grown men, were officially\u00a0exonerated.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Formerly referred to as the \u201cCentral Park Five,\u201d these men now\u00a0refer to themselves as the \u201cExonerated Five\u201d They sued the\u00a0City of New York racial discrimination and emotional distress.\u00a0The city settled the case for $41 million. Korey Wise donated a\u00a0portion of his settlement amount to the University of Colorado\u00a0\u2013 Boulder to create the Korey Wise Innocence Project in\u00a0Colorado. Kevin Richardson partnered with the Innocence\u00a0Project based out of New York. Raymond Santana is a clothing\u00a0designer.\u00a0Yusef Salaam is an author and social justice advocate, who was elected in 2023 to city councilman for\u00a0District 9 of New York.
